Second Grade
The Fauvist art movement was started in 1905, when the artist Henri Matisse and a group of like-minded artists (including André Vlaminck and Raul Dufy) exhibited work at the Salon D’Autonme in Paris. The bright, vivid colors these artists used are celebrated by our students in their self-portraits. Some of their works incorporate shapes that Matisse used in the cutouts that were so important to him toward the end of his life.
Third Grade
As a class, students read about and discussed important aspects in the life of Henri Matisse. In small groups, students developed stories about key facts and turned them into comics using the application Comic Life. Double click on the comics to view them full size.

Fourth Grade
Students used the Internet to learn about Matisse. Together we compiled a list of what we knew about his life and each student chose the vocabulary they felt best expressed this artist. We used the online application Wordle to create our word clouds.
