The Fine Art/Technology exhibit, held in June, 2015, showcased student work in all grades. Some of the work can be viewed below; grades 1, 3 and 6 can also be found on the Artsonia website.
Kindergarten: Students were inspired by the art of Amos Ferguson (1920 – 2009), who painted the nature and animals of his native Bahamas. Each kindergarten class nurtured and released butterflies this spring, and students used the coding app Scratch Jr. to draw their own backgrounds, butterflies and insects. They created their own scripts to animate the characters and recorded information about the butterflies.
First Grade: Students learned about South African artist Helen Martins (1897-1976), who created the amazing Owl House in the small village of Karoo in Nieu Bethesda, South Africa. She loved owls and there are many examples of owls in her work. For this project each student drew their own owls and a background. They created path animations to make them move, and included sound.
Second Grade: Students learned about Mirka Mora (1928 -), a painter, sculptress and free spirit. Mora was born in France and moved to Australia in the 1950’s. Her fantastical, dream-like creations interested the students and inspired them to create their own backgrounds and imagined creatures. Their stories are explained in the narrations.
